In Loving Memory
Theofanis "Phil" Pappas
Theofanis “Phil” Pappas was born on the 4th of July in the year 1944 in a small village in Greece. He immigrated to America through Ellis island when he was just a young boy. He took a ship from Greece to New York by himself at only 8 years old, and then rode a train to be with his family in Youngstown Ohio, where his father and mother, as well as his brother and sister, were waiting for him. He grew up in a humble home that didn’t afford him the finest of luxuries to say the least, but he made it out and joined the Air Force. While serving the country he loved, he met the woman he loved during the time he was stationed in Germany. He eventually left the military and went back to Ohio where Ilse later joined him, and they were married. After graduating from Youngstown State University, he put his accounting degree to work for the IRS and other government agencies in Ohio. Phil and Ilse had two children, first Nicole, and then, three years later Christopher. Shortly after Chris was born, hey moved the family to Houston for new opportunities and built a wonderful life for their children, and eventually they shared that life with two grandchildren. Phil Pappas retired as an ATF agent, but he was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher, soldier, inventor, accountant, restauranteur, investor, carpenter, and more during his life. He was also a world traveler whose journeys started with a boat ride from Greece to New York, but his spirit of adventure would take him from the mid-west to the far east and back again. At 9:19 on 10/19/23, the foundation that Phil Pappas laid was finished, and that wonderful journey came to its conclusion.
